This intermediate level program for attorneys, mental health and financial professionals will instruct practitioners how to better assess, provide informed consent, and address conflicts early, to improve the intake process for a collaborative divorce case. The NJ Collaborative Family Law Act, IACP research, as well as screening for DV will be examined.
Participants will be able to:
- Understand terms and utilize collaborative participation agreements
- Understand terms and utilize client engagement agreements with lawyers and mental health professionals
- Explore the special nature of informed consent as required by the NJ Collaborative Family Law Act
- Assess areas of client difficulty based on IACP research
- Screen for domestic abuse and violence
- Develop strategies for working with both spouses in an initial meeting
- Assess whether to meet with the client alone or with the interdisciplinary team for the first meeting
- Develop methods for lowering conflict of parties during the collaborative process
- Gain information and skills to provide an overview of different collaborative models to anticipate needs and readiness of the other spouse
Cost: $100.00 with advance purchase by October 26, 2017. After this date the cost will be $125.00.

NJPA maintains responsibility for this program and its content. This program has been approved by NJPA for 3 credits and is pending approval by the Board on Continuing Legal Education of the Supreme Court of New Jersey for 3 CLE credits. This program has also been approved for continuing education by the New Jersey Social Work Continuing Education Approval Collaborative, which is administered by NASW – NJ. CE Approval Collaborative Approval Period: September 7, 2017 through August 31, 2018.
